DIDSBURY - Former Town of Didsbury councillor Mel Crothers has died.
Crothers was a town councillor from 2017 to 2021 and was a member of the town’s municipal planning commission for many years prior to his election. He passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
Mayor Rhonda Hunter called Crothers a “committed and dedicated” individual who “worked for the best interests of the community.”
In recognition of Crothers’ passing, flags at the town office were lowered to half-staff on Friday, Feb. 25.
“It was clear that he had the respect of his fellow council members and colleagues, and he worked so well with us all, always displaying respect for the council process and those he served with,” said Hunter.
“He represented our town and his role as councillor so very well through his obvious support for and presence in local businesses, at community events, and of course at the council table.”
Crothers did not seek re-election in the 2021 municipal election. He was reappointed to the municipal planning commission in October 2021.
