Ethan Williams resigned from Didsbury's municipal council in late November.

DIDSBURY - Former Didsbury councillor Ethan Williams says while he didn’t always agree with every council decision, he believed his fellow council members always worked for the betterment of the community.

Williams, who resigned last month to pursue career opportunities, provided a statement regarding his resignation to the Albertan on Dec. 5.

“While we may not have always seen eye to eye, I has always respected mayor and council’s dedication to working the best interests of the people of Didsbury,” Williams said.

“Every decision was made with the intention of serving this great community’s and that is something I deeply respect.”

Specifically regarding his decision to step down, the first-term councillor said, “This decision comes as I take the next step in my professional career, which requires my full attention. While this is a bittersweet departure, I came excited for the new opportunity ahead and grateful for the experiences and friendships I’ve gained.”

He thanked his fellow councillors, mayor Rhonda Hunter, and town staff for their “support and collaboration” during his council term.

After officially accepting Williams' resignation at the Nov. 26 council meeting, councillors defeated on a motion to hold a March 20, 2025 byelection to replace Williams prior to the October 2025 municipal election.
