DIDSBURY - Six people, including five youths, have been taken to various area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, following a school bus crash on Highway 2A north of Didsbury Monday morning, Alberta Health Services officials said.
One youth was taken to Foothills Medical Centre, one youth to Alberta Children’s Hospital, three youths to Didsbury Health Centre, and one adult to Peter Lougheed Centre.
All the injured were transported by ground ambulance. The ages of the injured students have not been released.
EMS paramedics responded to the crash scene.
There were nine students, two teachers and the driver on the bus, which rolled south of the Olds-Didsbury Airport sometime before 10:20 a.m., said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney.
Road conditions at time are believed to be the cause of the collision, she said.
At about 10:21 a.m. a Didsbury RCMP officer came across the rollover between Township Road 320 and Township Road 314.
The highway was expected to be closed for three to four more hours, she said at 1:30 p.m. Police remained at the scene at that time.
As of 3:35 p.m., Didsbury RCMP advise that Highway 2A between Township Road 320 and 314 is now passable.
