CARSTAIRS – A semi tractor trailer was completely destroyed in a fire on Highway 2 outside of Didsbury on Friday afternoon.

Didsbury RCMP received a report of the vehicle on fire on the highway near Twp. Rd. 294 shortly after noon. The east-west township road runs south of Carstairs.

“Upon arrival, the driver of the semi was able to detach his load; however, the tractor unit was a complete loss,” said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.

Fire departments from Carstairs and Crossfield responded to the fire and were able to extinguish the blaze.

“There were no injuries reported,” he said.

The incident closed off the northbound lanes of the highway for some time, with traffic diverted onto Highway 2A.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the highway was reopened to traffic.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he told the Albertan.
