DIDSBURY – Didsbury town council has approved a plan to have election-campaign-style signs erected in the municipality in support of health care and other frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Approval of the project came by way of motion at the April 28 council meeting.
The initiative will also include an opportunity for residents, business owners and others to purchase individual signs at a nominal fee with the proceeds going to Essentials for the Community community support organization.
Didsbury Family and Community Support Service (FCSS) will administer the program and design the signs.
The estimated cost of the town signs is $300, and although the cost of the individual signs has yet to be determined it will likely be in the $20-$25 range, council heard.
Nicole Assen, manager of community services with the town, said while the wording on the signs is yet to being finalized, “they are going to say something like ‘Thank you to all essential workers for keeping us safe and that you go to work for us so please stay home for them.”
Officials hope to have the signs up and available for sale in the next couple weeks, she said.
