DIDSBURY - Didsbury’s Joyce McCoy is one of nine recipients of the 2020 Stars of Alberta volunteer awards presented for outstanding community contribution.

Awards were presented in youth, adult and seniors categories, as well as in the new breaking barriers category. McCoy’s award came in the adult category.

She has been involved in volunteering in Didsbury for many years, as well as volunteering with figure skating as a data specialist at the provincial and national level for more than 20 years.

Her in-town volunteer activities have included lots of social media work, including founding the A Better Didsbury and the Caremongering Didsbury Facebook sites.

She said she is honoured to have received the award, which was presented during a Zoom teleconference on Dec. 4, and included a certificate and plaque.

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards program started in 2000 and since then, 136 Alberta volunteers have received the honour.

Stars of Alberta is part of the provincial government’s efforts to recognize the invaluable contributions Albertans are making to their communities.
