DIDSBURY - Town council has approved three additions to the 2021 capital budget totalling $218,000. The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
Council approved six budget items in January and referred other items to strategic planning committee for further consideration.
Following that review, the committee recommended three additions to the budget:
• Street lighting continuity on 20th Street for $120,000.
• Community information signage project for $70,000.
• Southridge sewage lift station emergency backup generator for $28,000.
The determination of the proposed locations for the second sign for the community information signage project has been referred to the committee.
Other recommendations from the committee include removing the east reservoir addition design phase for the time being, and removing the asphalt repair equipment and packer and request additional information, such as testimonials on the equipment, to be brought back for further consideration.
Development initiatives proposed
Meanwhile, council has given second reading to a development incentives bylaw that will waive approved offsite levies for new developments in town until December 2023.
The move also came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
Council gave first reading to the bylaw on Jan. 26, followed by a review by the policy and governance committee and the development incentives committee.
The committees recommended that the bylaw receive second reading.
The bylaw calls for the waiving of offsite levies at the completion of full construction on a per-development basis and will “apply to new construction projects completed between Jan. 1, 2021 and Dec. 31, 2023.
The waiving of levies will be in “relation to that portion of lands that reasonably serve each new project as determined by and at the discretion of the (chief administrative officer).”
The proposed bylaw now goes to the policy and governance committee for further consideration.
