DIDSBURY – Residential development permit values increased in town in the third quarter, with nine permits issued for construction valued at $1.1 million or more than double second quarter values.
In his monthly report to council presented on Oct. 13, the Town of Didsbury's chief administrative officer, Ethan Gorner, included the latest residential and commercial development statistics.
To date, 27 permits have been issued relating to residential development, totalling $2.59 million. In the first quarter, 11 permits valued at $957,000 were issued; in the second quarter, seven permits valued at $466,000 were issued.
Residential developments covered by the permits include dwellings, accessory buildings, additions, decks, suites, and demolitions.
There have been 24 commercial development permits issued, totalling $2.39 million.
In the third quarter, 10 permits were issued totalling $2.2 million. In the first quarter, seven permits valued at $159,000 were issued, while in the second quarter, seven permits valued at $22,810 were issued.
Commercial developments include commercial retail units, changes of use, and signage.
So far in 2020, 35 certificates of compliance have been issued: 16 in the third quarter, six in the second quarter, and 13 in the first quarter.
The certificates are a reflection of real estate activity in town as the issuance of the letter often accompanies the selling of a property, he said.
