DIDSBURY - Didsbury council has approved a $267,867 operating grant for the Didsbury Municipal Library for 2025.
The move came by way of motion during a recent budget meeting, held in person and online.
The proposed library budget came before council at the Nov. 12 meeting for consideration and then was forwarded to the budget meeting.
In 2024 the town contributed $262,156 to the library, with the province providing an additional $38,501 and the rural services transfer totalling $12,349.
Total revenues and expenses in 2025 are each projected to be $382,575, compared with $353,694 in 2024.
In a note accompanying the budget, library administration said the library continues to provide valuable services to the community-at-large.
“The library is experiencing increased usage levels across many metrics: program attendance, items borrowed, community use of space, and public computer use.
“These metrics demonstrate that the library serves as a crucial support system for the community, particularly in light of the increasing cost of living. The fundamental concept of a community library is that by pooling resources among friends and neighbours, every member of our community can access the materials necessary for enriching and fulfilling lives, irrespective of their income.”
The 2025 budget will allow the library to “continue delivering core library services.”
“This investment in human resources is not just prudent, it is a strategic imperative that will enable the library to flourish as a vital resources for learning, culture, and enrichment in our town’s future.”
During last week’s budget meeting, council also approved an operating grant totalling $37,440 for the Didsbury and District Historical Society, and an operating grant totalling $12,000 for the Didsbury Lions community bus.
“They all do a lot for the community,” said Coun. Ethan Williams.
