Twenty-five residential development permits issued in Didsbury

DIDSBURY - A total of 25 residential development permits had been issued in town halfway through 2021, according to the town's chief administrative officer.

In his monthly report to council at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, Ethan Gorner outlined residential, commercial, and land use applications and appeals for the first half of 2021.

A total of eight residential development permits valued at $561,177 were issued in the second quarter, compared with 17 permits valued at $1.76 million issued in the first quarter.

Residential permits cover dwellings, accessory buildings, additions, decks, suites and demolitions.

A total of seven commercial development permits valued at $2.46 million were issued in the second quarter, compared with 15 permits valued at $2.45 million in the first quarter.

Commercial development consists of commercial retail units, changes of use and signage.

There was one subdivision land use application approved in the second quarter, compared with on in the first quarter.

There was one development and subdivision appeal in the second quarter, compared with none in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, there were 30 certificates of compliance issued, compared with 10 in the first quarter.

Compliance certificates are issued in conjunction with the selling of properties.

In his report Gorner also told council that the sale of the old AG building and lands has concluded for $771,751, which includes contractual obligations to ensure a fully functioning HVAC system for the building.

As well, he said administration has met with the economic development subcommittee to explore the idea of a Christmas in August community event in town.

Council accepted Gorner’s report as information.
