A train collision in Didsbury was tied up traffic for a few hours Monday, Dec. 9.

DIDSBURY - A train collision that tied up traffic in Didsbury for a couple hours mid-day on Monday was caused by a mechanic problem with a hydraulic lifting machine called a zoom boom, say police.

“Initial investigation shows that the zoom boom, not a truck as initially reported, had mechanical trouble while crossing the tracks and became immobile,” said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney.

“Unfortunately, this occurred as a train was approaching, and the train collided with the zoom boom on the tracks.”

There were no injuries in the Dec. 9 incident and the train was removed and traffic resumed at about 2 p.m.

The police investigation in the incident is continuing, she said.
