DIDSBURY - Council has approved several changes to Didsbury's community standards bylaw, including making electric scooter vehicles no longer prohibited under the miniature vehicles section.
The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.
“Electric scooters (also known as e-scooters) can be used on Town of Didsbury sidewalks and pathways. Children under 16 must be wearing a helmet,” the updated bylaw states.
Prohibited miniature vehicles still prohibited from use on town sidewalks and pathways include pocket bikes, go carts and golf carts. Those vehicles can be used on private property in town.
Changes to the community standards bylaw were considered by the policy and governance committee at the instruction of council prior to being brought back before councillors on Oct. 24.
A second change, this one to the projectile devices section 6.1, added firearms to the definitions.
“A person shall not discharge any projectile device anywhere within town limits. The exception being when a permit is obtained from the Town of Didsbury,” the updated section 6.2 reads.
Other prohibited projectile devices identified in the section include paintball guns, pellet gun, air soft guns, BB guns, bow, crossbows, and slingshot.
Work on the update has been underway since the spring, said Coun. Ethan Williams, committee chair.
Chief administrative officer Gorner said permits are approved and issued by administrative procedure.
Council carried third reading of the updated bylaw, with all members in attendance.
Council passed a second motion sending the updated bylaw to the policy and governance committee to consider adding infestation of noxious weeds to the legislation.
