DIDSBURY - Residents in Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury and Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs will be receiving COVID-19 vaccines on Jan. 13, officials said Thursday.

Public health nurses will be at the two Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) lodges to administer either the Pfizer-BioTech or Moderna vaccines.

Social distancing protocols will be in place to protect residents during the vaccinations, which are voluntary.

“The staff will call for the residents or assist them as needed to get to the area for vaccinations,” Lynda Molde, resident care manager at Aspen Lodge, said in a release.

A similar statement was released by Teina Bowen, site administrator at Chinook Winds Lodge.

“Both vaccines do require a second dose that would be given in three weeks,” said Molde. “This (follow-up) appointment has not been scheduled yet.”

Residents and family members are being provided with information sheets from Alberta Health Services regarding the vaccinations and related procedures.

The timeline for vaccinations at the Olds and Sundre MVSH lodges will be made soon, said chief administrative officer Sam Smalldon.
