DIDSBURY - The winter camping pilot project at the Town of Didsbury-owned Rosebud Valley Campground will end after this winter, say officials.

Following an in-camera discussion, councillors carried a motion during a recent council meeting to wrap up the project, which started in 2022.

The campground is located on the east side of Didsbury on Highway 582.

“Council is eager to have much space available in our beautiful campground to invite and provide as many visitors and tourists the opportunity for great and memorable campaign experience in our community,” Mayor Rhonda Hunter told the Albertan.

“Council agreed that more visitors and tourists will be able to book a spot for a great spring, summer or fall visit with the discontinuation of winter camping.

Winter camping at the site was first allowed in 2022-23 and continued during the 2023-24 winter, wrapping up now at the end of the 2024-25 winter.

Council approved updated standards for winter camping at the site last year, including regarding skirting material, heating sources, exterior storage, and compliance.

Campers paid $800 per month plus GST in winter 2023-24. The rates will be the same this winter, say officials.
