DIDSBURY - Fans of the Wynonna Earp TV show will be flocking to Didsbury on Thursday to share their love of the popular program, which has been filmed in various locations in the town over the years.
Hundreds of fans are taking part in the Earptopia Convention in Calgary Oct. 3 - 6. Those same fans, who call themselves ‘Earpers’, are coming to Didsbury for the convention's Didsbury Day.
During filming of the show – which ran from 2016 to 2021 and now includes a Tubi Network original released in 2024 – Didsbury was ‘transformed’ into the fictional community of Purgatory.
“The show centres around Wynonna Earp, who has been away form her hometown, Purgatory, for years but returns to reluctantly take on the role of Wyatt Earp’s heir is destined for – demon protector,” the town said in a release issued Sept. 30.
A scavenger-hunt style tour of all the main filming spots in town is planned, as well as a showcase of some of Wynonna Earp’s most recognized props.
“We are very proud to be able to share our town with these fans,” mayor Rhonda Hunter said in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to have them come and experience it again, for some, and for the first time for many others.”
Many local businesses and attractions will be taking part in the scavenger hunt tour, as well as a ‘Taste of Purgatory’ lunch, she said.
“For those unable to attend the official Didsbury Day, the scavenger hunt is available for Oct. 7 and tickets can be purchased on the town’s website and the showcase of props will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for this event as well.”
