DIDSBURY - Scenes for an upcoming 90-minute Wynonna Earp special are planned to be shot in Didsbury next week.
While the Syfy TV series ended in 2021 after four seasons, streaming service Tubi announced last month it was making a 90-minute special to air later in the year.
Now in production, Wynonna Earp: Vengeance is billed as a brand-new Earp story with all the series' favourite characters.
In the series, Wynonna Earp is the great-great-granddaughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp who battles reincarnated outlaws that Wyatt killed.
The Town of Didsbury's chief administrative officer, Ethan Gorner, said filming will take place at several locations in Didsbury starting in the early hours of March 12 and running until the evening.
Temporary road closures associated with the filming are planned for March 12.
Production trucks will move into town on March 11 at about 8 p.m. and will park in the gravel lot at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
On March 12, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. the closure of 20th Street from 18th Avenue to 20th Avenue is required. Traffic will be detoured around that site.
There will also be filming in and around the Didsbury cemetery in the morning hours on March 12.
“As always, road closure notices will be posed on the town’s website and Facebook page, so we ask residents and commuters to keep an eye out for updates. We are excited to be welcoming the production team to Didsbury,” said Gorner.
It's not the first time that Didsbury has stood in for Wynonna Earp's fictional town of Purgatory.
Scenes for numerous episodes of the television series have been filmed in Didsbury starting with its first year in production in 2016.
