REGINA — The Saskatchewan government says an addictions recovery centre in the southern part of the province is to expand its capacity.

Addictions Minister Everett Hindley says St. Joseph's Addiction Recovery Centre in Estevan, Sask., is to create 14 additional post-treatment beds.

The spaces are to be open to all Saskatchewan residents at the end of the month.

The recovery centre currently provides the province with 32 in-patient treatment spaces, four pre-treatment spaces and six post-treatment spaces.

The province says the new spaces are to improve capacity and allow for people to more easily move from in-patient treatment to followup and aftercare.

It says the 14 news spaces are part of the first phase of its commitment to add at least 150 more addictions treatment spots across the province.

"Addictions have a devastating impact on individuals, their families and our communities," Hindley said in a statement Thursday.

"Our government is committed to increasing access to treatment and recovery services so that people across the province who are suffering from addictions can get the help that they need."

Saskatchewan currently funds 475 detoxification, treatment, pre-treatment and post-treatment beds.
