WINNIPEG — Manitoba is reporting the first case of monkeypox in the province.
Dr. Jazz Atwal, deputy chief provincial public health officer, says it is an isolated case, the risk remains low and the person likely acquired monkeypox outside of the province.
He says public health is contact tracing the case and anyone who may be close contacts will be notified.
As of Sunday, Atwal says 168 doses of monkeypox vaccine have been administered in Manitoba and walk-in vaccinations are being scheduled for next week in Winnipeg.
The province says people who are eligible are gay, bisexual or are men who have sex with men.
People who are a close contact with a person who has monkeypox are also eligible.
