Lac La Biche pharmacy getting requests from outside the area for vaccine

One area pharmacist says he has received phone calls from as far as Edmonton, asking if they can book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine.

LAC LA BICHE - At least one Lac La Biche pharmacy has now received the COVID-19 vaccine. Crescent I.D.A. Drugs on Main Street is now authorized to give out the vaccine and started administering it, last week.

The pharmacy will be getting 200 doses a week, and Zicki Eludin, a pharmacist at Crescent I.D.A. Drugs, says they already have a waiting list.

“We have a list of well over 100 names already, and we will call people in the order they called us to book their appointment,” said Eludin. The province has now moved into immunizing people who are in Phase 2A, which is anyone who is 65 years and older, and anyone who is Métis, Inuit, and First Nations aged 50 years and older.

Having the authorization to give out the vaccine has been met with some people as far as Edmonton asking if they can book an appointment, but Eludin says he won’t take anyone who resides outside of Lac La Biche County.

“We are keeping it to our locals. I’ve had several calls to my personal home phone number asking if I can get them in, and I said 'no.' I’m only letting locals book appointments,” said Eludin.

For those who are 65 years of age or older and want to get the vaccine can book an appointment by calling 780-623-4059.
