The first place Okotoks Bisons shut out the Cannex Cochrane Generals 3-0 at the SLS Centre Totem 1 rink Friday night.
The Generals were competitive in the game but some penalty issues throughout the night killed the momentum on several drives, as the Bisons were successfully able to frustrate and stymie Cochrane throughout the game, which grew very chippy at times.
There were several long game pauses in the 3rd period, in particular, while the referees sorted out the penalty minutes, and had to make a ruling on a fourth Bisons goal, which was eventually disallowed. Tempers flared in the 3rd on both benches as coaches shouted at the referees, and several small altercations broke out on the ice between players, while the teams were both penalized for retaliation.
The Generals currently sit in 4th place in the Junior B division standings, and will next play the 5th place Strathmore Wheatland Kings at the SLS Centre on Sunday at 3 p.m.
