Foothills Storm brew up five-game win streak

The expansion Foothills Storm continue to impress as the newcomers in the AJFHL.

Foothills (6-3-0) extended its winning streak to five games in the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League with back-to-back triumphs over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Storm avenged its first loss in team history to the Cochrane Chaos by scoring a 5-4 overtime triumph on the road over the high-octane defending champions.

Kanika Sandhu notched the game winner at the 4:37 mark of the extra session.

Foothills’ Paige Forrest recorded a hat-trick with Nicole Avis adding the other regulation marker.

Keita Niemi made 23 saves for her second win of the campaign.

The Storm worked overtime on Saturday to dispatch the Calgary Titans at the Blackie Arena.

Mila Preville and Taylor Shubert scored in the shootout while Paige Williams stood tall with 38 saves on 39 shots in the 2-1 victory.

This weekend, the Storm will play at both of its home rinks for the first time.

Foothills is home to the Lethbridge Eagles on Nov. 11, an 8 p.m. puck drop at the Blackie Arena.

On Nov. 12, the Storm make their debut at their second home barn, the Oilfields Arena in Diamond Valley, for a rematch with the Titans. Puck-drop is 4:15 p.m.
