The Carstar Okotoks Bisons are nearing the finish line in the HJHL playoffs.
The two-time defending Heritage Junior Hockey League champions have the Rocky Rams on the brink of elimination with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinals following a 6-1 road triumph Friday night.
In Game 2, Caden Scott, Trevor Bonham, Avery Greig and Ethan Macintyre scored third period goals to break the game wide open after Daniel Tainton and Jake tallied in the first 40 minutes.
Thirteen Okotoks skaters registered a point with Jady Shigehiro posting a game high three assists along with two-helpers from both Luas Watkins and Jakob Semeniuk.
In between the pipes, Grady Nicholas, the HJHL Goaltender of the Year, made 23 saves for his fifth straight victory and fifth in a row allowing two goals or less.
The Bisons took the series opener 5-2 on home ice earlier in the week. Tainton posted a hat trick and is tied for the playoff lead with five tallies.
Okotoks hosts Game 3 Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. at the Murray Arena, with the opportunity to complete the sweep and get back to the league finals.
In the other HJHL third round series, the Sylvan Lake Wranglers lead the Medicine Hat Cubs 2-0 and also host Game 3 Saturday night with the opportunity to finish off the series.
