A terrific start to January in Okotoks has caught the league’s attention.
Okotoks Oilers forward Jack Silverberg was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Pizza 73 Player of the Week with teammate Rylan Brown earning the Ford Defensive Player of the Week honours for the Jan. 1-7 timeframe.
Silverberg extended his points streak to 12 games with three goals and nine points in four wins over the Camrose Kodiaks, Calgary Canucks, Lloydminster Bobcats and Drayton Valley Thunder highlighted by a two-goal, two-assist effort in the Stampede City on Jan. 3.
The Dartmouth commit sits third on the Oilers with 42 points in 34 games.
Brown, a Michigan Tech commit, had a record-setting week on the back end.
The 2005-born blueliner tied the Oilers’ record for assists in a game, with five against the Canucks, sits third in defenceman scoring in the provincial loop with 37 points.
As a team, the Oilers allowed just four goals against in their four wins to start the month.
Silverberg and Brown grew up in minor hockey in Sherwood Park and were linemates dating back to when the latter was a forward.
The duo, along with Oilers forward Sam Huck, are fresh off a gold medal with Team Canada West at the 2023 World Junior A Challenge held last month in Truro, N.S.

Rounding out the league honours, Brooks Bandits sniper Logan Sawyer was awarded the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week.
Sawyer has been a fixture in the weekly awards, taking home the Rookie of the Week nod on five occasions.
The Oilers get back into game action this weekend with three road games from Jan. 12-14 in Bonnyville and Fort McMurray.
Okotoks returns to the Centennial Arenas on Jan.19 against the Grande Prairie Storm.
