There’s nothing better than fresh flowers. Well, actually, there is. The only thing better than fresh flowers is fresh flowers that you’ve picked yourself. When you think Alberta farms, you might think cattle or grains, but we’re here to tell you that we have a lot more than that. In fact, we have a whole slew of gorgeous flower farms that you can find to bask in the beauty and sweet fragrances and even pick your own. Can you think of a more special and personalized bouquet to gift to your favourite person or little old self? Here are some Alberta flower farms that you should pay a visit this summer:
Birchwood Meadows
You’ll find this stunning location in Sturgeon County. This family farm has evolved significantly from its humble beginnings as a grain farm decades ago. It is the most gorgeous backdrop for a summer day in the sun, bursting with a wide variety of beautiful blooms you can wander through and take home. Not only that, but they host workshops and are often booked out for weddings and special occasions because the venue is just that beautiful. The u-pick garden features over 35 varieties of flowers and greens, or you can choose from their pre-made selections at their flower market.
Common Cheer Farm
Now, let’s take a journey over to Fawcett, Alberta. Serving the good people of Westlock, Athabasca, and surrounding communities, this gorgeous farm grows a wide variety of specialty cut flowers in their field, once a cattle pasture. Their flowers are harvested and bundled into beautiful bouquets that they deliver to their neighbouring areas, and they even have a weekly flower club that you can join to get fresh blooms every single week. You won’t believe the diverse variety of flowers they grow; the bouquets are always bright and creative. If you would rather pick your own, you can watch for their u-pick dates and visit the farm yourself. The location is so stunning that we’d highly recommend doing that!
Beyond Roots Flower Farm
Now we have Beyond Roots Flower Farm in Lacombe County, an enchanting peony farm that is quite a sight to behold. There are a number of ways to enjoy the peonies for yourself, from flower subscriptions to browsing the ready-picked bouquets or, of course, picking your own. The owners of this farm both have careers off of the farm, so u-pick is only offered on pre-scheduled dates. Luckily, those dates are very frequent. You can book a spot at the u-pick events and visit the farm to experience it first-hand. There are a collection of other events like picnics, parties, and more, so keep your eyes on their website for your perfect opportunity to go in person.
Fraiche Flower Farm
This adorable little farm is located in the tiny rural hamlet of Tulliby Lake, Alberta. They’re known for their flower crown classes, u-pick evenings, and holiday wreath workshops, so you can really make the experience your own. They also sell seeds, ranunculus, anemone corms, narcissus, and tulip bulbs! They are committed to using organic practices, and they never, ever use pesticides on their beautiful blooms. Keep your eyes out for u-pick nights and classes, which Fraiche Flower Farm is passionate about offering in the most comfortable, inviting, and fun way to make you feel like you’re spending an unforgettable evening among friends. You can choose from standard u-pick, sip & snip or charcuterie and wine u-pick nights.
Glenreagh Gardens
Glenreagh Gardens is located near Barrhead, Alberta, and began as a sunflower-focused farm. Now, they’ve expanded into even more flower varieties, and they have alpacas! You can get your sunflowers and other varieties u-pick style, or you can order a pre-picked bouquet or get them wholesale. On top of the flowers, they have gardens filled with delicious fresh produce that you can also pick. And why not feed an alpaca while you’re there? They ask that you book your u-pick experience in advance to enjoy yourself and get the most out of the day without overcrowding the gardens.
Primrose Lane Farm
This beauty is a 130-acre farm in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. You’ll find it at the very southwest corner of Alberta, near Waterton Lakes National Park. They are known for their truly stunning flowers and their adorable highland cattle. Those two things alone should already have you booking your visit! Their flowers are offered through flower subscriptions, floral design bookings for weddings and events, and u-pick! They occasionally host u-pick days throughout the season, or you can book the farm for a u-pick evening of your own. You won’t believe how beautiful their wide range of flowers is, from light and pastel to dark and moody, you can really build a bouquet that suits you perfectly.
