PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Josh Davies scored at 5:40 of double overtime, Jan Spunar made 48 saves and the Portland Winterhawks edged the Prince George Cougars 2-1 Monday to advance to the Western Hockey League final.
The Winterhawks won the best-of-seven Western Conference series 4-2.
They'll face the winner of the Eastern Conference final between the Saskatoon Blades and Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Warriors and Blades are tied 3-3 with Game 7 set for Tuesday at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
Nate Danielson also scored for Portland.
Borya Valis replied for Prince George, while Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 36 shots.
Danielson opened the scoring at 19:00 of the second period.
Portland's 1-0 lead held until 5:45 of the third, when Valis got Prince George on the board.
After a scoreless first overtime, Davies took a feed from Josh Mori on the rush in the second extra frame before firing a shot past Ravensbergen.
