Nashville SC has fired coach Gary Smith, just hours after his MLS team defeated Toronto FC 2-0.

Nashville (3-4-5) stands 10th in the Eastern Conference and has won two of its last thee matches after a five-game winless streak.

Smith, the club's first head coach, had been in charge for seven seasons. Over that time, the team made the playoffs for six consecutive seasons in the USL Championship and Major League Soccer, and the 2023 Leagues Cup final.

Assistant coach Steve Guppy has also left the club.

Rumba Munthali, a former Nashville player and current player development coach, will serve as interim coach while the club looks for a successor to Smith.

England's Smith leaves Nashville with 52 MLS wins, including three playoff victories.
