GAVELTON, N.S. — Mounties in Nova Scotia say a child is dead after an all-terrain vehicle crash near Wolfville.

The RCMP say they responded to a report of a missing 10-year-old child just before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The child had set out for an ATV ride earlier in the day in the area of Canaan, N.S., about 14 kilometres southwest of Wolfville, and had not returned.

Investigators say an officer found the child dead about two hours into their search.

The ATV was found in a ditch in Gavelton, N.S., about 10 kilometres south of Canaan.

Police say the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is helping with the investigation.
