ESTEVAN, Sask. — A woman and her son are dead following two altercations in southeast Saskatchewan, one of which also led to a police officer being seriously injured.

Estevan police say officers responded to a call Wednesday morning and found a woman in an apartment suffering from serious upper body injuries.

They say 46-year-old Karie Ann Guillas died in hospital, and her death was deemed a homicide.

Officers arrested a man at the scene and transported him to the police station.

While there, police say the suspect got into an altercation with an officer and there was a shooting.

Police say the officer and suspect were flown to a hospital in Regina with serious injuries, and the officer was recently listed in stable condition.

A family member told The Canadian Press in an online message that the suspect was the woman's son and he also died of his injuries.
