INNISFAIL – It was a fundraiser with a bit of sparkle.
The Kinette Club of Innisfail recently hosted the 41st annual Dinner of Diamonds, at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion on Oct. 19.
“We have a different theme every year,” said Tammy Noete, president of the Kinette Club of Innisfail. “A different theme keeps it fresh and it keeps it exciting for the community.”
This year’s theme was a Hawaiian Luau, with Hawaiian-themed decorations and a Hawaiian menu as well, she noted.
The women-only event has been a community tradition for more than 40 years. The goal is to bring Kinette members and other women in the community together for an enjoyable night out with dinner, dancing, entertainment, door prizes and a chance to win a diamond ring.
“It’s a fundraiser. We have door prizes, raffle gifts and rings,” said Noete. “We’d like to thank the businesses and people who have continued to support us for this fun night out. All the money we make from this event goes back into the community,” she added. “We appreciate the continued support for the Dinner of Diamonds year after year.”
Local singer Cole Malone provided entertainment for the event. He was there with his band Kixxsin and special guest Fred Tucker from the Calgary-based band Lowtide.
“It’s for a great cause. The Kinettes are a wonderful (organization) in Innisfail,” said Malone. “They do so much for our community and it’s such an honour to be a part of this and raise some funds.”
Malone performed a mix of country and rock songs for the event, including some of his own tunes, which are available on digital streaming services.
“My latest single is Next To Me, which I released last year and there’s possibly a new song coming in the new year,” he said.
Noete noted Mark Kemble returned as MC for the Dinner of Diamonds, with the annual fundraiser once again well attended.
“We put this on every year with our volunteers with the Kinette Club of Innisfail,” said Noete. “It’s a fun night. It’s a night out for the ladies and that’s why we’ve continued to do it.”
