INNISFAIL – An alert member of the community observing car prowling activity is being praised by police for being proactive in the ongoing fight against property crime.

"Property crimes are a priority for the Alberta RCMP in its crime reduction strategies. There is an ongoing focus on targeting, and putting a stop to the activities of repeat property crime offenders," said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler.  "Public assistance in reporting suspicious activity is an important piece of this strategy."

Innisfail RCMP were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. on March 29 after receiving a complaint of two males manipulating car door handles and breaking into vehicles on 44th Street in Innisfail.

Eiler said RCMP attended the area and observed two males matching the description. One male was carrying a backpack and when questioned by police provided a false name.

The male was eventually identified as Jordan Sherman Walker, said Eiler.

Walker, 25, of Red Deer County, has been charged with possession of weapon dangerous to public peace, obstruction and two counts of breaching of recognizance.

Walker was released and appeared in Red Deer provincial court last month.

If any citizen has any information about this or any other crime, he or she is asked to call the Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342.  If they want to remain anonymous, citizens can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by Internet at www.tipsubmit.com.
