Innisfail residents are invited to have their say on AltaLink’s plan to upgrade the transmission system between Wetaskiwin and Didsbury during an open house tomorrow night.
The open house, which will provide residents with information about the project as well as allow them to give their input and ask questions, is from 4-8 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 104.
The proposed development plan will include upgrading six substations in the Red Deer area; rebuilding 75 km of existing transmission line between the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake areas; building three new substations near Ponoka, Didsbury and Innisfail; constructing 50 km of new transmission line close to the new substations and east of Lacombe; removing about 25 km of existing transmission line between Red Deer and Innisfail; and removing about 75 km of existing transmission line between Wetaskiwin and Lacombe.
According to AltaLink, most of the transmission lines in that area were built between 40 and 50 years ago. Area towns and cities have grown by more than 100,000 people in that time frame.
Open houses are also scheduled in Ponoka (July 26), Red Deer (July 27), Lacombe (July 28), Didsbury (Aug. 2), Innisfail and Sylvan Lake (Aug. 4).
