Innisfail’s annual Charity Checkstop will be set up downtown this Saturday to accept donations in support of a number of local charitable organizations.
The annual event, now in its 16th year of giving, will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 50 Street between 48 Avenue and 49 Avenue – just look for the red and blue flashing lights. RCMP members, volunteers and Safety Bear will be on hand to accept donations of clothing, food, new and gently used toys, and cash from traffic heading in both directions. Safety Bear will also be handing out candy canes.
Drivers not wishing to make a donation will be allowed to pass through the checkstop.
Organizer Const. Cindie Dennis said she is amazed by Innisfail’s desire to help its less fortunate.
“I’ve never seen a town (that) so easily donates and gets behind projects like that,” she said.
The items will be given to a variety of charitable organizations, including the Innisfail Food Bank, the Christmas Bureau, Women’s Outreach Society and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Anyone with questions about the Charity Checkstop is asked to contact the Innisfail RCMP or Const. Cindie Dennis at 403-227-3342.
