Annual Fly-In Breakfast set for airport

For more than 30 years, flying enthusiasts and members of the public have taken in the annual Fly-In Breakfast, presented by the Innisfail Flying Club.

“It's an awareness event that we hold,” said Jim Romane, treasurer for the Innisfail Flying Club. “It gives the public an opportunity to see what the Innisfail Flying Club is about and it encourages people to come out and experience a little bit of aviation.”

The event takes place at the club's hanger at Innisfail's Big Bend Airport off Highway 54 on June 12 from 7 to 11 a.m. It includes a pancake breakfast, a display of unique aircraft, vintage cars, parachuting and gliding demonstrations, face painting and helicopter rides. The cost is a donation to the Innisfail and District Food Bank.

“We invite other aircraft and members of the flying community from across Western Canada to fly in and have breakfast,” he said. “There's been some years with really good weather where we've had as many as 50 aircraft come from all over Alberta.”

Each year the event sees a good turnout, said Romane, noting it is often weather dependent.

“We've had as few as 100 and we've had as many as 400 for the breakfast,” he said. “Weather permitting is the biggest factor,” Romane added, pointing out the often-rainy season in June. “Hopefully we get a good weekend and good turnout this year.”
