Volunteers are a big part of any community.

The towns of Innisfail and Penhold are honouring the work, time and dedication volunteers give to their respective communities during National Volunteer Week, from April 10 to 16.

The Town of Innisfail is inviting all community volunteers to help celebrate during its volunteer appreciation event on April 15 at the Innisfail Legion from 6 to 9 p.m.

“We encourage all community-wide volunteers to come out that night,” said Karen Bradbury, community and social development coordinator. “It's a night to recognize the work they do and the valuable contributions they make.”

Cocktails and appetizers kick off the evening at 6 p.m. followed by words of thanks from delegates at 7 p.m. Russell Thomas, a motivational speaker and artist, takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.

“He's going to do an interactive workshop with the volunteers,” added Bradbury.

Volunteers are the Roots of Strong Communities is this year's theme for National Volunteer Week, and is one the Town of Penhold is highlighting with its volunteer appreciation event, also on April 15 at the Memorial Hall from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The evening will include dinner and entertainment.

“It's a special night for everyone to get together,” said Jennifer Blaylock, coordinator for the town's Family and Community Support Services office.

The evening will include entertainment by Bullskit Comedy from Red Deer. Members of council and the mayor may say a few words of thanks and local groups, clubs and organizations are invited to thank their volunteers as well, said Blaylock.

Community volunteers and guests are asked to RSVP to Blaylock by April 8.

“They really are the backbone of all of our community and service groups,” said Blaylock. “Without them a lot of the work and the great things that happen in this community couldn't be done.”

Patrons are asked to RSVP to Bradbury at 403-227-3376 or via email [email protected] and to Blaylock at 403-886-4567 or via email [email protected]
