PENHOLD - Families in Penhold now have the option to workout 24 hours a day at the Penhold Multiplex Fitness Centre.

"If someone starts their shift at 6 a.m. and they want to come out and work out at 4 a.m., there's (keys) you can pick up, sign in and electronically let yourself in, use the fitness equipment and work out," said mayor Dennis Cooper.

The new hours began in early 2017 to allow families and individuals to use the facility at their convenience, he noted.

The multiplex fitness centre launched its 24-hour workout option on January 15.

"We are trying to help families stay healthy and try to meet their needs," he said.

Thousands of local residents use the multiplex on a regular basis, noted Cooper, adding to use the facility patrons must be a 24-hour member.

"It makes the facility more (user friendly) and it gives more people a chance to use it," added Cooper. "Instead of trying to work within the facility's hours, now we're working within our citizens' hours."

Those interested in purchasing a 24-hour membership can do so at the multiplex, said Cooper.

"They can get the (key fob) that will let them in so they can use the facility at different times of the day."

Cooper noted the increased use of the multiplex and the fitness centre last year.

In 2016 the Penhold Regional Multiplex saw 155,000 patrons come through its doors.
