Bicycle-fleeing youth nabbed for allegedly breaking into Innisfail school

INNISFAIL – A teenager is facing break and enter and mischief charges following an incident at Innisfail Middle School that caused more than $5,000 damage.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a news release Innisfail Mounties responded to an alarm at the Innisfail Middle School on Oct. 17.

He said on arrival Innisfail RCMP discovered the school had been broken into and a significant amount of damage was done to the institution.

While at the school, RCMP officers observed the suspect attempting to flee on a bicycle, said Savinkoff.

He said a short foot chase ensued and officers arrested the suspect without incident.

Savinkoff said damage to school property is estimated to be more than $5,000.

 He said a 16-year-old youth was arrested and charged with the following offences:

• break and enter;

• mischief over $5,000;

• obstructing a peace officer; and

• trespassing.

Savinkoff said the youth has been released from custody to guardians and will appear in Red Deer youth court on Nov. 17.
