INNISFAIL – During the lead up to last spring’s Boob Tour in town Trish Proctor predicted something special could happen for the event.
The 2023 Boob Tour at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104 on April 28 was the 10th in Innisfail, despite it being cancelled from 2020 to 2022 by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tickets were selling fast and on the night of the Boob Tour not a single one was left; all 275 had been sold at $30 each.
When the evening was over organizers knew it was also a record-setting evening for the annual event with more than $15,000 raised.
Proctor, the chair of the event, said prior Boob Tour evenings had never before achieved raising more than $10,000 before the 2023 event.
On Aug. 10 at the Legion, Proctor and fellow Boob Tour committee member Danny Rieberger presented a cheque for $15,603 to Martine Grenon-Lafontaine, community philanthropy officer for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
Proctor said the funds will be directed to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre in Red Deer.
“It was really good. We're very happy with everything,” said Proctor following the cheque presentation. “I think this year was such a huge sellout (because) having it after COVID, when we couldn't really do anything, everyone was excited to get back out and have a fun evening out and not spending hundreds of dollars.”
She also praised the continued generosity of Innisfailians who stepped up big-time for the fundraiser.
“It was unbelievable. We have never had success like that before in the live and silent auctions,” said Proctor.
She said committee organizers are already planning next year’s Boob Tour, which will be on April 16.
“We're just getting the logistics worked out still but we're moving forward to next year,” said Proctor. “We're excited for next year and we hope to see everyone out again.”
