Bowden town council ratified a revised snow-clearing policy at its March 12 meeting, revising a policy council had previously ratified in December.
Andy Weiss, the town's chief administrative officer, told councillors that since the December ratification, public concerns about the policy have been voiced and the updated version should give staff and council more clarity on the policy if further concerns are raised.
Weiss also said that first priority work also needed to be clarified, noting that operator discretion wasn't working as well as it could have under the previous version.
"This should give a high degree of certainty to all of us. People will have ample access to this," he said, noting that the routes and policy will be available at the town office and on the town's web-site.
"All of us that were involved in the snow removal policy Ö know that this isn't a perfect document," he said.
The revised policy calls for the first priority being to begin clearing at the intersection of 20 Avenue and 23 Street, heading north on 23 Street, then west on 21 Avenue to 22 Street in front of Bowden Grandview School. Five other high priority areas are listed in the policy.
Medium priority routes will be cleared only after all high priority routes have been cleared. Similarly, low priority routes will only be cleared after all medium priority routes have been completed.
Weiss said the revision clarifies what streets will be done and when, unlike the previous version.
"The basic premise of this revision is each of these three areas Ö are further broken down as to Ö which specific part of what street is going to be done first, what specific part of another street is going to be done second, all the way through. That's in response to all of us (at the town office) fielding phone calls," he said.
"It will give citizens in Bowden certainty as to when their street is going to be done," he said.
