The Bowden Institution prisoner who made his escape in late April was sentenced to serve an additional four months in jail for escaping lawful custody when he appeared in Red Deer provincial court on June 13.
Dean Leonard McClelland, 46, pleaded guilty to escaping lawful custody and one charge of being unlawfully at large when he appeared in court on May 8. The charge of being unlawfully at large was stayed, which means it won't be proceeding at this time.
McClelland escaped on April 26 from the minimum security annex at Bowden, which has no fences.
Cpl. Jeff Hildebrandt said in a previous interview that McClelland had made his escape just 15 hours after being transferred from medium security to the annex. McClelland had been in medium security for two years.
McClelland was serving a three-year, eight-month and 15-day sentence for criminal harassment, mischief in relation to property and arson that caused property damage.
McClelland was caught in Calgary where he was arrested without incident.
