BOWDEN - There's a new warden at the Bowden penitentiary.

Tracey Farmer was officially installed in his new post during a change of command ceremony on Nov. 7.

He succeeds David Pelham, who held the position for about seven years and has now retired from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

“In many ways this is a symbolic event, but it's important to note that for the newly appointed leader, it represents their pledge to ensure that every decision they make respects CSC's mission, the rule of law, and the rights of staff and inmates," said CSC commissioner Don Head.

Following is the CSC's mission, according to its website:

“The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

"Every change in leadership brings new thinking and new opportunities for growth and I am very pleased to be here to help to commemorate this event," Head said.

“This ceremony is an important tradition for CSC. It reaffirms the incoming leader's pledge to support CSC's mission and contribute to the safety and security of the public, employees and offenders,” a news release says.
