Bowden residents are now shelling out 50 cents more per person to help the town's library keep up with expenses.

Town council recently approved a 50-cent increase in per capita funding for the library.

“We're currently at $4 per capita. We will be at $4.50 per capita in 2016,” said Andy Weiss, the outgoing chief administrative officer for the town.

He was asked if the hike took effect as of Jan. 1, 2016.

“Well, we pay them once a year, so whenever (that occurs),” Weiss said.

He said the increase is much needed.

“It assists the Bowden Public Library with their day-to-day operations. They pay staff, they pay a number of things that we all pay for and this money assists them in keeping the library open.”
