Innisfail youth were treated to a Christmas dinner at the Innisfail Youth Facility on Dec. 17 courtesy of the Innisfail Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and three corporate donors.

“We are pleased to be able to offer the youth who attend Boys and Girls Club and the Side Door Program a Christmas dinner and give each of them a present through the generosity of an Alberta-wide business, Kevins No-Frills and the Anglican Church ladies,” said Sharron Matthewman, FCSS community coordinator.

Matthewman noted that Fraser Shingling and Exteriors owners, Calgary based John Corrigan and Edmonton's Daniel Corbeil donated $1,000 to the Christmas party.

“I have a heart for children, no matter where they are,” said Corbeil. “My business takes me all across Alberta and we have worked in the Innisfail area so when Sharron called me I did not hesitate to help out.”

The Edmonton businessman has three children and he wanted to make sure the children got something special.

“I wanted to be there to speak to the children but could not make it,” said Corbeil. “Our most precious gift is our children and we need to make sure they know that.”

More than 20 children attended the first Christmas dinner, received a present from Santa Claus and celebrated with their friends.

“It was a great evening,” said Matthewman. “Mindy Grover of Boys and Girls Club of Olds came to visit and witness how the Innisfail chapter is growing. We will do this next year.”
