INNISFAIL - With the $2.8-million modernization project for the town's administration building nearly complete, council has made a budget adjustment for a cost overrun and a surplus.

“Now that we are approaching completion of the building, which hopefully will be by the end of September, we are working with the contractor and architect and we have a better understanding of what our cost to complete the project will be,” said Frank Colosimo, the town's director of operational services. “We are finding that we may have a shortfall in the building side but we are going to have a surplus with the furniture.”

Council was told on Aug. 28 there was an anticipated $58,524 shortfall on the original $2,525,142 budget for the building construction part of the project. However, council also heard there was an anticipated $178,369 surplus on the projected $250,000 budget for new furniture.

Colosimo said the furniture surplus monies will be returned to town reserves with $65,000 redirected to finish up the administration building.

Once the entire modernization project is complete solar panels will be installed next month at the revamped civic headquarters at a cost of about $50,000. Colosimo said the expenditure has been separately budgeted from the $2.8-million construction budget.
