Mounties are investigating another series of car thefts in and around Innisfail.

From November 14 to 22, six motor vehicles were stolen in town, while two others – both stolen in Red Deer – were later recovered in Penhold and Innisfail.

Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk said the first theft occurred on Nov. 14 – a red 1998 Dodge Neo from a residence on 45th Street. Matechuk said the vehicle was stolen while it was parked overnight in front of the house. He said the vehicle has an Alberta licence plate of PZX810.

The second car theft occurred overnight on Nov. 17 from the driveway of a residence on 54A Avenue Crescent. Matechuk said a 2001 Ford F-350 was stolen. He added a neighbour heard a loud vehicle leave the area at 4 a.m. on the same morning before the pickup was noticed missing.

Matechuk said a third auto theft was reported on Nov. 18 from a residential driveway on 39th Street. He said the stolen Ford F-150 had an Alberta licence plate of DAK010. On that same day a 2002 while Dodge Dakota sport pick-up truck, stolen out of Red Deer, was recovered at the Mountain View Restaurant on Nov. 23. A day earlier a 2001 red Ford F-350 was also stolen in Red Deer but was later recovered in town on 54A Avenue.

RCMP received their fourth stolen vehicle report on Nov. 19. Matechuk said a black 1998 Dodge Ram was stolen from The Zoo parking lot at the back of the Innisfail Hotel. The vehicle had a 2006 Banshee quad in the back. It had an Alberta licence plate number of 6Q190.

A fifth vehicle was reported stolen on Nov. 22. RCMP said a 1998 white Dodge Ram pick-up truck was stolen from a residence east of Innisfail. The vehicle was recovered a short while later at Rge. Rd. 243 and Hwy 42. RCMP said a sixth vehicle - a 1998 grey GMC Sierra pick-up truck was stolen. It has not yet been recovered.

Innisfail RCMP also reported members made a recovery of a stolen vehicle on Nov. 16. Matechuk said a 2006 Hummer H3 that was stolen in Red Deer on Nov. 13 was recovered three days later in Penhold.

He said Mounties have no suspects in any of the auto theft cases. Matechuk is asking any citizen with information on any of the incidents to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Cops probe Horn Hill break-in

Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk said police were called at 8:25 a.m. to investigate the break-in at the waste transfer station, located north of Innisfail at Rge. Rd. 273 and Twp. Rd. 365

He said it is not known how the culprits gained entry into the site and an interior shed, noting they did so without any damage to the gate or locked doors.

Matechuk said once inside the culprits stole hand tools and welding equipment.

If anyone has information about the break-in he or she can contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Another scam call reported

Mounties are once again warning the public to be careful with fraud calls or contact from people seeking financial help to assist loved ones.

On Nov. 20, Innisfail RCMP were approached by two local citizens who said they received a phone call from someone who asked them to wire money to a lawyer in Quebec to help a neighbour get out of jail, said Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk.

He said everything about the phone call to the local was false. He is urging all citizens to contact the local detachment at 403-227-3342 if they receive similar calls, and cautioned them never to hand over any monies in such cases.
