Carstairs, Didsbury students heading to provincial skills competition

Four Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) students are heading to a prestigious provincial skills competition after qualifying at the regional level.

The students will compete in the upcoming Skills Alberta competition in areas such as carpentry and welding, CESD officials noted in a recent release.

Auston Wright is Grade 11 student at Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs. At regionals he received a gold in the carpentry category.

Logan Swanson is a Grade 11 student at Didsbury High School who received a silver in the welding category.

Johan Eriksson is a Grade 12 student at Didsbury High School who received a silver in the carpentry category.

Ryder Mierke is a Grade 11 student who received a bronze in the carpentry  category.

Two other students, Salvador Vermeulen, a Grade 11 student at Ecole Olds High School, and Levi Reese, a Grade 10 student at Didsbury High School, also placed well at regionals.

There are 32 categories in the provincial competition, including in carpentry, welding, auto body repair and electronics. 

The 2025 competition takes place in Edmonton May 7-8.
