The spirit of community is alive and well during the holiday season at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School.

Not only have they been active with the Snow Angels program serving seniors and the disabled during the winter season shovelling snow, but for the fourth consecutive year the Advent Giving Tree is front and centre in the school entrance.

“Every year we, as a school, give back to the community any way we can during the Advent season,” said school principal Ryan Sawula. “One way we do that is to have the Advent Giving Tree, which started the last week in November this year, in preparation for the coming of our Saviour.”

Families and staff can go to the tree, and pull a name tag off, and then purchase the indicated gift, whether it is clothing, toys, or gift cards for the individual or family. Gifts are brought back to the school, and then during the last week of school the gifts are distributed accordingly, a school official said.

In past years, the school has adopted Innisfail seniors, the Innisfail and District Food Bank, and Christmas Bureau.

“Every year we try to find the needs in our community, and then offer support as a school and faith community,” Sawula added.

St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School is also holding its annual Advent Concert on Dec 19. There will be two performances, a matinee at 1:30 p.m. and an evening presentation at 6:30 p.m. Children of all ages and classes will be performing for proud parents, grandparents, and community members.

Members of the community are welcome and can call the school at 403-227-2123 for information.
