The Town of Innisfail's priorities for 2014 are now full public knowledge to the business community after Mayor Brian Spiller and Craig Teal, director of planning and operational services, recently spoke to the Innisfail and District Chamber of Commerce.

Teal and Spiller alternately presented during a brief 20-minute PowerPoint on council's strategic priorities, road and construction projects for 2014 to an eager audience on April 16.

“The Town of Innisfail has extensive plans for utility and road reconstruction,” said Teal. “Part of the budgets are government grants while we will finance the remainder from our town's budget.”

Teal pointed out the town's target is to have an industrial strategy ready by September, which will include reviews of options for more industrial land parcels, a new sewage lagoon west of Highway 54, water/sanitary sewer service options and another subdivision. He went on to discuss the inflow and infiltration reduction strategy and how the town would realize cost and water savings over time.

Spiller discussed road and utility reconstruction projects, which will take place from early May up to late fall of 2014 that include the reconstruction of 42 Street ($460,000 budget), underground utilities and road surface work at 50 Street between 44 and 47 avenues, water and sanitary sewer lines construction in the lane between 44 and 45 streets, and the 51 Avenue sanitary sewer main that is being funded 100 per cent by the town.

Other topics of discussion included Telus fibre optic cable to Innisfail residents and businesses, the upcoming Town of Innisfail developed Napoleon Meadows subdivision, and the supply of single-family and duplex developments.

“It was good to be able to talk to members of the business community,” said Teal. “Any time we can get information out to the public and answer questions on our plans it is always good. Members of the public can always contact the Town of Innisfail.”

The next Chamber Network Lunch, which will feature a guest speaker from the Red Deer County agricultural services department, will be held May 21 at the Highwayman Restaurant at the Super 8 Motel. Information on the chamber can be found online at www.innisfaillive.ca or at 403-227-1177.
