Innisfail’s 16th annual Charity Checkstop raised almost $8,000 in cash, plus additional toys, clothing and food for numerous local charity organizations.
Const. Cindie Dennis said the event collected $7,943.63 in cash donations, and was a huge success despite taking place in the midst of a winter storm.
“I think it went incredibly well,” said Dennis. “I’m pretty sure that’s the most we’ve ever made. The donations that we got from the businesses was fantastic.”
The charitable organizations benefiting from the event were the Innisfail Food Bank, the Christmas Bureau, the Women’s Outreach Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Innisfail.
Despite the blizzard, volunteers kept up the holiday spirit as they accepted donations along 50 Street on Dec. 3, Dennis explained. Jim Seward, a former RCMP member who runs a DJ business, volunteered his time to provide Christmas music.
“I think it was really successful – we had a lot of fun even though it snowed and snowed and snowed.”
