INNISFAIL – Parishioners and Innisfail and area residents enjoyed a Christmas Tea at St. Mark's Anglican Church.
The fundraising event was held at the church hall on Nov. 25.
“We have two teas every year (with one in the spring), and this is our annual Christmas Tea,” said Heather Kallman, member of St. Mark's in Innisfail. “It's a fundraiser for our church.”
Kallman said the Christmas Tea offers both parishioners and members of the Innisfail community a chance to enjoy a festive afternoon tea, some baked goods, sandwiches and fellowship.
The Christmas Tea also included a baked goods and craft table with items for sale to help with the efforts of the church, noted Kallman.
“The teas are fundraisers for the church. Mainly it's been for replacing the roof – that's been our goal for the last couple of years,” she said, noting the work on the roof has already begun. “Part of it is done and the second part was finished this fall. We just have to raise the money to finish it.”
The annual Christmas Tea is a well-attended event every year, said Kallman, but is often weather dependent. “Being a gorgeous day today, hopefully we'll be busy,” she added, noting they still need to raise about $8,000 for the new roof.
Dorothy Page and Arthur Hillson were two of Saint Mark's parishioners out enjoying the Christmas Tea.
“The food and tea are wonderful,” said Hillson. “It's a lovely afternoon.”
“We come out to everything they have. I've been here (attending St. Mark's Anglican Church) since 1981,” said Page, noting how important both the Christmas Tea and springtime tea fundraisers are to the church.
“They are much needed. I think most churches need fundraisers these days,” said Page.
