A program designed to help those with chronic diseases is coming to Innisfail again this fall.
Starting Sept. 6, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is offering a six-week series of free workshops called Better Choices, Better Health at the Innisfail Library/Learning Centre.
“A little bit of lecturing, there's discussion, there's time spent making action plans for the next week,” said Wendy Volkart of the workshops. Volkart is a chronic disease educator with AHS.
Chronic disease can include things like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, obesity, cancer or other ongoing health issues.
“Any condition which is sort of with you for the long-term,” she said.
The goal of the workshops is to help chronic disease sufferers learn techniques for living with the problem every day.
“The intent of it is to help people learn better health management skills,” she said. She said the workshop sees participants setting goals for themselves and problem solving when action plans aren't being met.
A press release from AHS about the workshop said topics include things like handling pain and fatigue, managing medication, dealing with difficult emotions and more.
There are still several spots open in the program. Volkart said it is preferred people register in advance.
The sessions will be held on Thursdays, starting Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information or to register call 1-877-314-6997.
